5 things to do when camping
So you’re out camping. You have hiked to a nice spot, or maybe you have thrown some mattresses in the back of your car and are on a road trip and have stopped for the night. Either way you set up camp, and then what? What do you actually do when camping? Well, I’m glad you asked. Here are 5 tips for things to do when camping.
1 Make and eat dinner
This one might seem obvious, of course you are going to need some food. But how often do you really get the time to just relax and enjoy making and eating dinner? My guess is, not often enough. So why not take the time when you are out trying to relax anyways to really appreciate the process of making and eating dinner. Food always tastes better in the outdoors anyway so why not savour it.
2 Talk
Talk to the people you are camping with. After all, one of the main points of going camping with people is to spend time together. So put you phones away, and actually talk to each other. Make connections, make plans, discuss ideas, tell stories. The list of possible conversation topics is endless, and the nights are long.
3 Read
Bringing a book is not something everyone does, but if you brought a book now is the time to read it. Personally I will bring a book if I am going out alone, but if I am with other people I won’t as I would rather talk with the people I am with then have my nose in a book 😉
4 Whittle
Whittling is, in my opinion, an underappreciated activity. You can make so many things with just a knife and some wood. It is also a quite relaxing activity, as long as you don’t cut your fingers that is. In that case it might not be as relaxing anymore. You can make useful things like spoons, a clothes hook or a walking stick. Slightly less useful but still practical things like small figures. Or, my personal favourite, which has verry little practical use, a diminishing stick (Norwegian: minkepinne).
5 Make pinecone and stick animals
You’re an adult you say. Well, trust me, making tiny animals out of pinecones and sticks is still fun. And who wouldn’t want their own miniature farm of unicorns, sheep and giraffes.
