Following my own advice
In one of my previous posts, I wrote about how to bring a little more adventure into your everyday life. A couple of weeks ago I decided to follow my own advice and turn down a path I have passed by many times before, but never actually taken the time to check out.
The only reason I have noticed this path is because of a small sign that has been put up in a tree that points of from the path I have walked before. Other than that, the path has usually been quite obscured by either high grass or snow depending on the time of year. When I got there this time however most of the winters snow had melted, and spring hadn’t quite set in yet, so the path was clearly visible as soon as I turned the corner.
Continuing down the path I was pleased to find that it did not immediately disappear around the next corner but was visible and easy to follow all the way to Fiskelausvann. The terrain was easy to walk, and the ground was surprisingly dry. Especially compared to the path I had just left, which is almost always soaking wet. Which made for a delightful hike.
When I reached Fiskelausvann I didn’t go all the way down to the water, but instead followed the path up a hill on the side of the water to find a good spot to sit and have lunch. It was a bit windy, but after a bit of wandering back and forth I found a good spot that was, mostly, out of the wind and in the sun with a nice view out over the forest and down to the water.
For once I had brought my hammock with me on a dayhike, which turns out to be an excellent idea and makes for a very comfortable and portable “camp chair”. After setting up the hammock I made myself some lunch and spent some time reading before, eventually, packing up my stuff and heading back home.
All in all, this hike turned out to be really nice and I discovered a new spot that could potentially be a god spot to go camping at a later date. So judging by this experience I might have to follow my own advice more often and turn down more “un-explored” paths in the future.
