My go-to campfire meal

Sometimes I want something a little more fancy than plain sausages or a grilled cheese sandwich when I am making food on a campfire, but at the same time I don’t want to put in an awful lot more effort. This is where this recipe comes in handy. It is easy, quick to put together and tastes great (as long as you remember to add the spices, if not it is quite bland). You can make it as is or change it up with different vegetables as you see fit.

Campfire stew (Bållapskaus)

Ingredients:

  • 1-2 potatoes

  • 1-2 carrots

  • ½ red onion

  • ½ clove of garlic (optional)

  • 2 sausages

  • Salt

  • Pepper

  • Ca. 1 dl water

You will also need:

  • A sheet of aluminium foil

  • A spoon, spork or fork

  • A Knife

  • A cutting board

  • A campfire

  1. Make a fire.

  2. Prepare a sheet of aluminium foil large enough to fit all of the ingredients on.

  3. Cut the potatoes, carrots, sausages and onion into small pieces (the bigger they are the longer it is going to take for them to get cooked through), and place in the center of the sheet of aluminium foil.

  4. Finely mince the garlic and add to the rest of the ingredients.

  5. Add salt and pepper to taste.

  6. Mix the ingredients together.

  7. Fold the aluminium foil around the ingredients. Leave a small opening at the top, but make sure that there are no openings or small holes at the bottom and the sides.

  8. Add the water through the opening you left at the top.

  9. Set the packet in your campfire and wait patiently for it to be done. Remember to take it of the fire and stir a few times to make sure the pieces at the bottom won’t get burned.

  10. Enjoy!

Here with different vegetables, but the prinsiple is the same

Ready to go on the fire

Can also be made on a campstove :)
